Sprekerslijst bekend

Jurriaan Nijkerk. Is ruim vijfendertig jaar fotograaf. Hij werkte o.a. voor Philips, Gasunie en Witteveen + Bos raadgevend ingenieurs. Voor het NOB 'deed' hij (pop)concerten en theaterfotografie. Twee maal werd het team, waarvan hij deel uitmaakte, genomineerd voor de Nationale Coiffure Award. Hij was bestuurslid bij BFN en SVFN en had zitting in de examencommissie van de Nederlandse Fotovakschool.
Vanaf het eerste nummer van het vakblad DeFOTOgraaf leverde hij redactionele bijdragen en hij was ruim een decennium hoofdredacteur. 'Bij mijn aantreden was het doel een nieuwe opzet neer te zetten voor DeFOTOgraaf: een blad dat over fotografen en fotografie moest gaan. De opzet was ook internationaal, ik had mij ten doel gesteld België en Nederland te bestrijken, dat is ook gelukt. Het nummer van augustus 2010 was mijn laatste nummer, het werd weer eens tijd voor iets anders.'

Het nieuwe richtprijzenboekje 2019 is uit!

Het richtprijzenboekje dient behalve voor prijsindicatie ook als richtlijn in gerechtelijke procedures bij toewijzing van honoraria en schadevergoedingen bij geschillen. Vandaag is de complete sprekerslijst (de key notes) voor Professional Imaging 2015 bekend gemaakt. De meeste namen zullen bekend in de oren klinken, de sprekers komen zowel uit binnen- als buitenland en hebben ieder voor zich in de praktijk iets neergezet.

Ook dit jaar belooft Professional Imaging, wederom na groot succes in Nijkerk, haar gevestigde naam als dé vakbeurs in de Benelux weer waar te maken.
Hier volgen de hoofdsprekers en enkele voorbeelden van hun werk.

In ieder geval staat PhotoNmagazine ook op de beurs, wij verheugen ons er op in levende lijve en goed gesprek met lezers en potentiële lezers aan te kunnen gaan.

Scott Kelby hoofdspreker

Een van de meest markante personen uit de wereld van de fotografie is wellicht Scott Kelby. Scott is ook een van de moeilijkst benaderbare personen. Vandaar dat het zeer bijzonder is om hem wee te mogen verwelkomen.

Velen kennen Kelby als Photoshop en Lightroom expert, hij stond aan de wieg van de ontwikkeling van trainingen, heeft meer dan vijftig boeken op zijn naam staan, geeft zo'n zestig tot zeventig seminars en lezingen per jaar en maakt zich ook zichtbaar met podcasts en andere publicaties. Zijn boeken zijn vertaald in tientallen verschillende talen, waaronder Chinees, Russisch, Spaans, Koreaans, Pools, Taiwanees, Frans, Duits, Italiaans, Japans, Nederlands, Zweeds, Turks en Portugees, om er maar een paar te noemen.

Hoe het is begonnen •

Scott is een zeer vriendelijke en ook heldere prater. Het plezier in wat hij doet straalt van hem af. Ik vraag hem hoe het allemaal zo is gekomen. Hij haalt even adem en begint dan.

“Met mijn vrouw Kalebra, mijn vriend Jim Workman en zijn vrouw begonnen wij in Clearwater in Florida met het maken van een plaatselijke nieuwsbrief voor Mac gebruikers. En de nieuwsbrief groeide, Mac Today Magazine werd Central Florida's Macintosh, daarna werd het 'Florida's Macintosh', vervolgens 'Southeast Macintosh' en uiteindelijk groeide het uit tot Layers Magazine. En ik bleef steeds hoofdredacteur. In die tijd schreef ik ook het boek Down and Dirty Photoshop Tricks dat wij zelf uitgaven. Het ging over grappige dingen die je met Photoshop kon doen. Tot onze verbazing werden er 22.000 van verkocht. Probleem was natuurlijk de distributie. Hierdoor ontstond het contact met uitgeverij Pearson, ik schreef later 'The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers waarvan 'slechts' 350.000 exemplaren werden verkocht. Amazing...”

Ik vraag hem over het succes. Ben je een marketingtalent?

“Weet je, ik zou graag willen dat er aan mijn hele verhaal een masterplan ten grondslag ligt. Dat wij alles volledig hadden uitgewerkt voor wij begonnen. Dát zou pas écht geniaal zijn geweest. De realiteit is echter, dat het een tot het ander leidde. Zo hoort het eigenlijk ook te zijn, het is de meest natuurlijke weg. Wil je succes hebben in de dingen waar je in gelooft en die je leuk vindt dan denk ik dat je die met plezier moet doen en natuurlijk ook goed moet doen. Gewoon hard werken.”

Je lijkt volgens sommigen op een verlengstuk van Adobe. Voel je dat ook zo?

“Natuurlijk is Photoshop een stuk van mijn inkomen, maar ik ben echter wel zo eerlijk dat ik mijn kritiek ook uit, zij het voorzichtig. Deed ik dit niet dan zou ik ongeloofwaardig overkomen. Zo ben ik bijvoorbeeld geen grote fan van de Bridge en ik druk mij dan uiterst beleefd uit. Lightroom is naar mijn mening een briljant gereedschap voor fotografen. Hoe meer beelden je maakt, hoe harder je Lightroom nodig hebt. Tegenwoordig werk ik naar schatting tussen de 65 en 70% in Lightroom. Ook heb ik al weer enige tijd geleden zeer scherpe dingen gezegd over het upgradesysteem dat Adobe destijds wilde doorvoeren. Dat werd, geloof ik, niet echt vrolijk voor zoete koek geslikt. Maar je kunt nu eenmaal niet altijd 'aap-wat-heb-je-mooie-jongen' spelen. Hiermee ondergraaf je de oprechtheid van je boodschap. En bovendien is Adobe hier ook niet mee gebaat.”

In ieder geval wordt het ook nu weer een plezierige beurs, daar ben ik van overtuigd,. Professional Imaging heeft veel kwaliteit, dat zie je wel eens anders. Ook de grootse opzet is overdonderend, zeker in het kleine Nederlandse taalgebied. Professional Imaging heeft mij wat dit betreft nooit teleurgesteld. Maar wij spreken elkaar binnenkort weer op de beurs!"

En eerlijk gezegd, ik kijk er ook naar uit. Even van gedachten wisselen met een bak koffie.

Adri de Visser

AFRICA together •

Adri de Visser is amateurfotograaf en met zijn vrouw Regine reist hij elk jaar naar Afrika. Het echtpaar is verliefd geworden op de ongerepte natuur van dit continent.
Met zijn tweeën trekken ze met hun eigen landrover gedurende drie tot vier maanden per jaar door de wildparken van onder andere Zuid-Afrika, Botswana, Namibië, Tanzania en Kenia. Slapen onder de sterren, omringd door wilde dieren. Adri heeft zijn camera altijd bij de hand. Gedurende deze trips naar Afrika maakte hij duizenden foto’s.

In november 2012 raakt Adri betrokken bij een overval. Hij overleeft het maar net. Maar vraag niet hoe. Fotograferen zal nooit meer gaan. Maar zijn liefde voor Afrika en fotografie is gebleven. Dit komt tot leven in deze expositie en het bijbehorende boek. Het boek zal tijdens Professional Imaging te koop zijn in de stand van Vermeer Publishing die tevens uitgever is van het magazine Natuurfotopassie.

Tevens zal Adri een lezing verzorgen in het Adobe Theater.

Spelen met licht •

In dit seminar laat Frank Doorhof zien hoe je met zeer simpele lichtopstellingen spectaculaire resultaten kan bereiken.

Gerhard Nel

Huwelijksfotograaf in hart en nieren •

Gerhard Nel (geboren in Zuid-Afrika): “De kern van mijn fotografie legt in mijn hart. Wat mijn oog zien en mijn hart raakt probeer ik zo zorgvuldig mogelijk met passie op de foto te zetten zonder op te vallen. Integratie in welke groep dan ook is heel belangrijk om vertrouwen op te bouwen om zodoende van binnenuit te kunnen fotograferen. De fotojournalistieke benadering is de stijl die ik gebruikt om een bruiloft met zoveel momenten, details en sfeer te fotograferen. Als onderlinge contact tussen bruidspaar en fotograaf goed en optimaal zijn kan jullie als bruidspaar genieten van elkaar, de vrienden en familie weten met een gerust hart dat de resultaat optimaal zal zijn”.

Gerhard benadert huwelijksfotografie vanuit een journalistieke hoek. Hij werkt zo veel mogelijk zonder regie en laat de foto's daardoor op een natuurlijke wijze ontstaan, waardoor zijn werk een spontane uitstraling krijgt.

Glyn Dewis

Originally from Staffordshire in the UK, it was when Glyn was first introduced to Photoshop in 2005 that his life took on a completely different path. With a somewhat tenacious personality and hunger to learn, a few short months later he found himself making his first trip across to the USA to attend the Photoshop World 2006 Conference and Expo in Las Vegas. The trip had a profound effect on Glyn being exposed to a completely new world; the world of creativity and expression where the only limitations placed on you are by yourself.

Returning from the USA, Glyn completely absorbed himself in Photoshop, studying and practicing during any spare moments and soon found himself being hired to retouch other photographer's work and it was this that naturally lead him into Photography and his first DSLR.

Fast forward a few years and Glyn is a Photographer, Retoucher and Trainer with clients ranging from the BBC, SKY and Air New Zealand, to Physique Athletes and Musicians. He attributes it all to combination of hard work, the guidance of incredibly talented and generous friends and a mind set of always wanting to improve and that there is ALWAYS something to learn.

Photoshop and Photography is very much a partnership in Glyn's work, and he now travels internationally teaching his own series of sell-out workshops, coaching, speaking and instructing at conventions, writing for several Photoshop Magazines across Europe and the USA including Photoshop User and Practical Photoshop, and in 2013 was featured in the New York Times. Without hesitation though, one of the highlights of his career so far is becoming a Member of the Photoshop World Dream Team of Instructors having received the call from Scott Kelby, President of Kelby One (formerly the N.A.P.P. and Kelby Training).

“What was originally the N.AP.P (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is where it all began for me and had it not been for the people I've met, friends I've made and the overwhelming support and encouragement I've received (and still do), things could be very different. To be entrusted to now share the stage with folks I admire both professionally and personally is nothing short of an honor".

Teaching and standing in front of large audiences came naturally to Glyn having attended drama school for a short period of time as a child, and having been regularly entered into public speaking competitions. Up until 2008, Glyn was also a Competitive Bodybuilder, although he stresses he does wear considerably more when on stage these days.

Glyn is the author of ‘The Photoshop Workbook: Professional Retouching and Compositing Tips, Tricks and Techniques’. He currently lives just outside of Oxford in the UK with his wife Anne, and cat Posey, and regularly updates his blog with news, reviews, behind the scenes information, tutorials and much more…

Kirsty Mitchell

Kirsty Mitchell: “Nikon UK Ambassador of Fine Art Photography” •

Described as a multifaceted artist, award winning British fine art photographer Kirsty Mitchell draws on her past careers in fashion design and costume making, to produce images of beguiling dream-like worlds all shot in the English landscape surrounding her home.

After a decade of working as a fashion designer, in 2008 Kirsty returned to her early love of photography and began a new and deeply emotional connection with the medium during the treatment of her mother’s terminal cancer. Following her tragic loss, 9 months later Kirsty immersed herself into what became an unexpected and life changing series entitled ‘Wonderland’; intended as a book in her mother's memory. The sudden international recognition for her work led Kirsty to leave her fashion career behind in 2011, to pursue her future as a fine art photographer with articles being published by the BBC News, Vogue Italia, Polish Harper's Bazaar, The Picture Professional and German's 'Stern' magazine to name a few. In March 2013 Kirsty received the title of 'Best Conceptual Photographer of 2012' via the US Framed Awards, and was also appointed the Ambassador of Fine Art Photography for Nikon UK. In December 2014 - Kirsty won the LensCulture 'Visual Storytelling Award' for the “Fictional Narrative category”. Following the award Wonderland has been featured by world renowned newspaper The Guardian, German’s largest news platform Spiegel Online, and UOL - Latin Americans largest news home page, with more articles and interviews currently pending.

After 5.5 years, 'Wonderland' was completed in November 2014. The coverage of the series continues to grow with followers all over the world connecting both with the artworks, but also the accompanying autobiographical 'Diary' written by Kirsty of her shoot experiences and the narratives behind the images . The entire project including the finished artworks, diaries and documentary photography of its creation, are due to be published as a book dedicated to Kirsty's mother, predicted for release in late 2015.

Kirsty currently lives and works as an artist in the Surrey countryside, near London and is represented by galleries in London and the Netherlands.

Richard Walch

German photographer Richard Walch started out over 25 years ago shooting snowboarding and skiing, and now specialises in dramatic action shots of snow and water sports. He was 16 when photography became a passion and at the age of 18 he started shooting for magazines professionally.

At the age of 26 his journeys to the best mountain spots were published in a book called ‘Fascination Snowboarding’. Ten years later he published his second book, this time about "the German dream of the Americas Cup." Overnight Walch was asked to shoot ‘the premier league’ in sailing and a year later became the official team photographer for the first German Americas Cup Team. Walch became fascinated by the power of water and wind and tries to shoot water like snow. "With a fresh eye to the sport and with a bag full of motivation, I soon found myself at the heart of the sailing community.”

For the last five years Walch has produced a calendar called ‘The Art of Sailing’. The calendar is printed on foil and has a strong layout. It won the Kodak Photo Prize as well as Gold and Silver at the International Calendar Show in Germany. Walch also shoots advertising and editorial work for companies such as Head, Elan, Oakley and Tommy Hilfiger as well as major brands such as Apple, Velux, Audi and BMW.

Handball is one of the fastest indoor sports and has become the next adventure for Walch. “As the lead photographer for the Velux5oceans round the world sailling race, Velux asked me to bring my style of photography to Handball – their latest sponsorship.” It turned into a two-year project for Walch and the European Handball Federation published a book about the project, featuring his photographs, in 2011.

Since 2008 Walch has diversified from stills into shooting HD movie projects with Canon EOS DSLRs, including TV adverts and commercial projects. He is always on the move to find out what technology has to offer and how this can influence his photography and filming in a positive way.

Bert Monroy

Bert Monroy is considered one of the pioneers of digital art. He is a hyper-realistic digital painter who builds his digital paintings as a traditional artist would, adding color and texture, but on a digital canvas. He is a veteran of 20 years in the advertising industry and 30 years as a commercial illustrator. He coauthored the first book on Photoshop and has authored several books since. He was a regular on Tech TV for almost four years and until recently hosted Pixel Perfect with Bert Monroy, a weekly Photoshop podcast for Revision3.com which aired for over three years.

Bert currently hosts a weekly podcast entitled Pixel Playground here on Lynda.com where he also has a vast library of tutorial videos. An accomplished teacher and lecturer, Bert has served on the faculties of the School of Visual Arts (New York), the Center for Creative Imaging (Maine), and California College of the Arts. He currently teaches at San Francisco State University where he has been on the faculty for over twenty years. His client list includes Apple Computer, Adobe Systems, Pixar and Disney Animation. Bert is a member of the Photoshop World Dream Team and in 2004 was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame.

Creating a Dreamworld •

You have a vision! A world made up by your imagination! You want to recreate it. But, you are not a painter! You do however, have hundreds of shots from vacations, family trips and more. In this session you will see how pieces are taken from various sources and manipulated to create entirely new worlds. Environments that will satisfy the need for the perfect backdrop or telling a story.

Painting With Photoshop: Amsterdam Mist •

Bert will take you on a journey where you will learn the techniques he used to create his latest digital painting— Amsterdam Mist. You will see how he started with a blank screen and created the image, using only the tools within Photoshop and Illustrator. You will understand the many uses of layers, filters, channels, brushes and everything else these programs have to offer. The only skill required for this session is an imagination.

Painting With Photoshop: Times Square •

In this session, Bert will demonstrate how he achieved many of the effects that went into the creation of the largest digital painting ever created. He will demonstrate how the many people throughout the image were rendered. Bert will explain in detail many of the tools and features that most users overlook will be.
